Learn Your Drum Rudiments

By on April 24, 2012

If you are just starting to play drums or even if you have been playing drums for awhile, it’s a good idea to learn all of your rudiments. What are drum rudiments? Well, I’m glad you asked 🙂

Basically, the rudiments are like the alphabet for drummers (kinda). If you learn these commonly used patterns, then when you are reading music with these patterns you can just play the music by reading in blocks instead of trying to read every note. It is very similar to the way you are reading this blog post right now. Word by word, not letter by letter.

These rudiments can be very handy for concert snare drumming, drumset playing and of course marching bands use them all the time. You can download your free copy of the rudiments from the Percussive Arts Society website at http://www.pas.org/TEACH/Rudiments1.aspx Enjoy!
