Don't Miss

Off To PASIC…

By on November 13, 2013

You know it’s November when you are packing up for the Percussive Arts Society’s International Convention. (Known as PASIC)to percussionists).  The festivities start Wednesday November 13th in Indianapolis at 8:30am. You can find the complete schedule of drumming events here: http://www.pas.org/PASIC/PASIC2013DailySchedule.aspx

For those of you who aren’t familiar with PASIC, it’s a huge world wide event, where the world’s biggest ‘drum club’ as I call it, get together to play, share, present and have a great time.  I’ll never forget my first PASIC experience– multiple rooms of concerts/presentations/clinics happening all at the same time.   Which is the only bummer, since you have to decide between all the amazing events.

PASIC 2013, won’t disappoint with everything from marching competitions, symphonic clinics, drumset, world percussion, keyboard & mallet showcases & topped off with the big evening concerts with Peter Erskine and Dave Weckl…  it’s going to be good 🙂

Last time I went to PASIC,  I came back with the ride cymbal of my dreams.  It is a Zildjian prototype that has no name.  That is one of the advantages of going to the big events.  You can visit the expo to see what is new in the industry.  Music, Instruments, products….  (Even turtle shells you can play like drums)

Also, what’s amazing about a percussion only event, is that you can meet and speak with your favorite drummers.  Many times you will run into them coming out of the bathroom…  Unlike the huge mega shows that they play with international superstars, you can actually get up close and meet these people at an event like PASIC.  Very fun.

You need to be a member of the Percussive Arts Society to attend PASIC, however the electronic memberships for students start a just $40 per year.  You can find more information here: http://www.pas.org/membership/Membership.aspx

Even if you don’t attend PASIC, you should be a member of PAS just to stay in the loop of ‘all things percussion’.

I’ll post some pictures when I get home…and if you see me in the halls of the convention center this week- stop and say hi!
